Mt Desert Island is located off the coast of the great state of Maine.
It's notorious for hosting the stunning Acadia National Park.

But outside of the park Mt. Desert Island has a stunning landscape and lifestyle all to it's own that often gets lumped all together with the park.

The Asticou Azalea Gardens is a perfect example of a beautiful spot not located in the park - but very close.

Built around 1957 with the foresight of Charles Savage, the gardens are located just off of Rt 3 near Northeast Harbor.

The gardens are owned and maintained by The Island Foundation as well as a committee of volunteers.
